Spider- Man: Homecoming

Now that the summer of 2016 is over it looks like, for the most part, this years movie season is over too. Overall it was a decent year for movies, especially for big summer action films. Naturally there were some disappointments (I am looking at you Suicide Squad.) A lot of the excitement we have for films comes from the anticipation and speculation. So, let us get right into it and start discussing what is to come in 2017. This is the list for the most anticipated movies of 2017.

Spider- Man: Homecoming is another Spiderman film due out in 2017. Yes you read that correctly, another Spiderman film. I guess if it is not broken don’t fix it- wait. It was broken and I am not sure they are really fixing or changing anything. Let us see what they do with this installment that could possibly be different than anything we have seen already.

Pirates of the Caribbean: Dead Men Tell No Tales

Coming in at number 15 is Pirates of the Caribbean: Dead Men Tell No Tales. While the comic book world looks to endlessly expand their universe Disney will try to do the same. What started out as a popular ride at the theme park as taken a new life of its own. Captain Jack Sparrow has become a popular character, almost a household name. It looks like Johnny Depp will put the dreads back on this summer. Let us hope it brings some of that charm from the original film, which came out almost 15 years ago.

Wonder Woman

Wonder Woman, believe it or not, has not had her own film. It is about damn time, it is one heroine everyone can get behind and perhaps will help absorb some of the many Harely Quinn Halloween costumes next year. Wonder Woman will first be introduced in Dawn of Justice before getting her own movie. Let us hope Dawn of Justice is not a total flop that ruins this films chances. Either way folks will flock to see the sexy Gal Gadot fly around as the immortal Amazonian.

Power Rangers

Number four on the list is Power Rangers and just hearing “Power Rangers” takes me back to my 90s childhood that featured many Power Ranger themed birthday parties. It has been 23 years since the Mighty Morphers presented themselves. It looks like this reboot is looking to bank on childhood nostalgia as the prime target demographic were children when Power Rangers were hugely popular. Let us hope it does not take itself too seriously and is just a lot of fun to watch.

Friday the 13th

There will be another Friday the 13th installments for us to feast our eyes on next year. Like the main villain, it seems this franchise cannot die. I do not think this film is looking to win any Oscars so I think the best bet is to tune in, turn off, forget you have seen this a million times and enjoy the blood and campiness of it all. And hey, maybe we will have some of those decade-old questions about Jason Voorhees answered.

Despicable Me 3

Minions! My god, it seems they have been here forever. Minions first graced the screens back in 2010 in the original Despicable Me. Since then it has been Minion mania. They struck a chord with audiences with being the perfect dose of cute everyone just ate up. Get ready for more Minions as Despicable Me 3 is due out next year. The months before the film is released next year you will see Minions everywhere promoting the film; billboards, trashcans, yogurt cups, on television, in your nightmares, you name it.

The Wolverine

Hugh Jackman will once again become Wolverine in what they are promising is the last installment of the series. This is the third film specifically based on Wolverine but it is the 9th film in which Jackman appeared as the antihero. Everyone seems to be tired of Wolverine which is kind of the gimmick this new installment is running on, promising it is the last one so we must see it. Perhaps we will get those answers we have been looking for.

War of the Planet of the Apes

The original Planet of the Apes came out in 1968 and is considered a classic. Since 1968 there have been many sequels and remakes that all failed quite miserably. It was not until this new installment of Planet of the Ape films that the reboots redeemed themselves. There looks to be a new addition coming out for the Planet of the Apes prequel, War of the Planet of the Apes. The film looks to finally explain how the apes took over and Caesar became ruler. The other films in this series received great reviews so expectations are high for this finale.

Justice League

DC comics have at best been inconsistent as far as quality goes. It looks like they are trying for it again and hoping for more success with Justice League. Ben Affleck will come back as Batman and although the idea of Affleck being Batman was laughable when first announced he was not so bad. Or maybe it was just that by comparison to the mess the film was, he did not seem as bad. Either way comic book fans will still flock to the theater no matter what critics say with Wonder Woman and Aquaman making appearances.

Transformers: The Last Knight

Now I never met a person that admitted to liking Transformers franchise but someone must like them. They keep making them and people keep going to see them! The new installment is Transformers: The Last Knight and it looks to be a lot of the same; explosions and cheap jokes. Hey, for some people that is all you need for a summer flick. Perhaps I will grab some popcorn, shut my brain off, and see it all while the CGI explosions reflect off the drool on my chin!

Beauty and the Beast

Always seeming to be out of Ideas, Disney looks to make another live action version of a classic. First it was Tarzan, and then there was the Jungle Book and Snow White And the Huntman. Some of the films were better than others although they seemed to fail to establish a dedicated audience. Fans are caught between how much to cling to childhood nostalgia from the cartoons and how many liberties are allowed to be taken for these new films. Beauty and the Beast is the next installment. With a stellar cast that features Emma Thompson and Ewan McGregor, expectations are high for this romantic musical.

Star Wars: Episode VIII

Star Wars : The Force Awakens was a smash hit across the galaxy in 2014. It seems Disney taking over is the best thing that could happen to the franchise George Lucas almost destroyed. Sure, it was just vintage Star Wars, but maybe that is what the people want. Don’t pull any risks or Jar Jar’s with the classics, George. The next installment will kick off next year and as promised by the end of the Force Awakens, we will get some Luke Skywalker Action.

Fast 8

Fast 8 will be yet another installment to the Fast and Furious series. It is sure to be packed with car chases and explosions and will make lots of money. I am not too excited about the film itself, what I am more excited for is how the feud between Vin Diesel and Dwayne Johnson is going to pan out. Some say it is all a hoax, which is setting up a wrestling match between the two. Either way I am dying to see how it all goes down.

Jeepers Creepers 3: Cathedral

Oh jeepers creepers, another Jeepers Creepers. We look forward to now what is the third installment of the series. Can you believe the first one came out in 2001? Jesus it seems like just yesterday my parents were dropping me off with my date to see it at the theater. This installment is set 23 years after the original and it looks like the human eating monster is at it again. Let us hope they waited this long for the third installment because the creators went back to good story telling school.

Before it’s release no one was expecting much from Guardians of the Galaxy. People assumed it would just be another comic book adaptation that would just come and go, but boy were they wrong. Guardians of the Galaxy was a pleasant surprise and fun film experience. Now everyone can get hyped for volume 2 due out in 2017.
