What a nice action shot. The cast gathers around the Christmas tree in this shot which was taken in 1953. It's amazing how four adults can have so much companionship for one another after working together for years. Another reason why I think the show was such a success.
Lucy had a natural talent and a laugh like no other. She was always a character and if that meant dressing up as someone else, so be it! This photo is of Lucy dressed as Marilyn Monroe from "Ricky's Movie Offer," episode which taped in 1954. The set has items that we still use today.
"I don't know what happened." This picture sums her character up to a T. Stemming from the iconic, "Lucy's Italian Movie," episode which aired in 1956. Lucy most likely was somewhere she wasn't supposed to be. Whoops!
In this episode "Celebrity Next Door," Tallulah Bankhead joins the fun. When Bankhead moves next door Lucy reacts as she typically would and chaos follows. One famous quote from Bankhead, "When Miss Bankhead is bored, Miss Bankhead will let you know." There was no shortage of sass on the screen.
This shot is from is from the "Lucy meets Bob Hope," episode taped in 1956. She tries everything to get in to meet Bob Hope. Ultimately trying to get Bob Hope to come to the grand opening of Club Babalu. She even shouts "I'm Ricky Ricardo's wife!" To no avail Lucy dresses like a ball player and a hot dog vendor in the process in order to try to meet Bob Hope.
Although the show ended almost 60 years ago, it still holds strong. Fans can watch full episodes on CBS as well as stream it on Hulu, or purchase it on Amazon. Since the show has ended a colorized version of its Christmas episode attracted more than 8 million viewers in 2013 (62 years after the show premiered). Episodes randomly are still being released in color.
The best friends of Lucy and Ricky were Fred and Ethel Mertz. Fred and Ethel also got into their fair share of trouble with the duo. Here is a priceless shot of the three of them on set. Friends even when the cameras stop rolling!
So here is a good example of how the show was shot. Even though it was in black and white the crew paid a lot of attention to details. Like in this photo Lucy's lipstick was red and the men wore colorful suits. Makes you wonder why they even bothered to put so much detail into their wardrobes with no color being able to be shown.
