Madeline DiRado is a competitive swimmer from San Francisco, California. She is 23 years old. DiRado specializes in the freestyle, butterfly, backstroke and medley. At the age of 15, Madeline received a perfect score on the math section of the SAT’s. She then followed in her family’s footsteps attending Stanford University and swimming for them. DiRado is married to former Stanford swimmer, Rob Andrews.

Pernille Blume

Pernille Blume was born in Herlev, Denmark. She is a twenty-two year old stunner. Blume began by competing in five different events for the Danish team. She specializes in freestyle and medley races. She is competing in the Rio Olympics in the 50 m freestyle, 100 m freestyle, the 4 x 100 m freestyle relay, and the 4 x 100 m medley relay.

She is the first female Italian to become an Olympic champion. She is also the first woman ever to breach the four-minute mark in the 400 m freestyle. She is currently dating fellow swimmer, Filippo Magnini.

She is currently holding the short course world records in the 4 x 50, 4 x 100 and 4x200 m freestyle relays. She is also the winner of six national records.

Cate Natalie Campbell is a twenty-four year old swimmer from Blantyre, Malawi who swims for the Australia National team. She began competitive swimming around the age of nine. Campbell’s family moved from Malawi to Australia in 2001 where she completed her secondary studies at Kenmore State High School in Queensland. Cate’s sister, Bronte is also an Olympic swimmer and the two competed in the same event at the 2012 Summer Olympics.

Chantal van Landeghem is a twenty two year old swimmer for the Canadian National Swim Team. She was born in Winnipeg, Manitoba. She specializes in the freestyle, backstroke and butterfly strokes. Landeghem was named the Manitoba Female Athlete of the year in 2011. She was recruited by the Georgia Bulldogs’ swimming and diving team after completing high school and is currently living in Athens, Georgia completing her degree in psychology.

Francesca Jean Halsall

Francesca Jean Halsall, otherwise known as “Fran,” is a twenty six year old Olympic swimmer from Southport, England. Halsall specializes in the freestyle, butterfly and medley races. In 2010 at the Commonwealth Games in New Delhi, India Halstall was racing in the 100-metre freestyle race when she got very ill, she still won the bronze medal, but was expected to win the gold prior to illness. Only twenty minutes later, she returned for the 100-metre butterfly semi-finals despite being sick and weak but was unable to make it to the final round.

This is a team of athletes that were displaced by war; they compete under the Olympic flag. Mardini and her sister fled Syria in August 2015 where they reached Lebanon and then Turkey. In Turkey they arranged to be smuggled into Greece by boat. When the motor on the boat stopped working Mardini, her sister and two others got into the water and pushed the boat for over three hours until they reached Lesbos.
