This Couple’s Tiny Home Will Have You Missing School

From multiple TV shows across networks to trending lists of the “best” buys, it’s safe to say that there’s a tiny-homes movement underway. Defined as a home smaller than 400 square feet, tiny homes are popular among people interested in more minimalist living. That was the case for Mira and Jeremy Thompson, who converted an old school bus into their new dream home.
After marrying, the couple lived a modern nomad lifestyle, traveling in a school bus. That got old after a few years, though, prompting the couple’s desire to settle down closer to their families.
Mira told The San Francisco Globe, “After living the typical, fast-paced Western lifestyle, the idea of living simply … began to appeal to Jeremy and (me) more. We wanted more time to set aside for family, travel, and to live in the moment. So … we got married and hit the road, living nomadically for a couple of years … We fell in love with our new lives and the freedom we had found and decided not to go back. But we did find ourselves wanting a home base … close to our families.”
With Jeremy’s background in carpentry and auto-body work and Mira’s design sense, the couple transformed the school bus into their perfect tiny home — all on their own!
According to Good Housekeeping, the Thompson’s tiny home is parked on some family-owned property, giving them access to a lake and a ton of outdoor space.
“It’s the beauty of tiny living. It gives you the extra nudge to get off the couch and outside into nature or your community,” Mira said.
Ms. Frizzle would definitely be proud of this magical school-bus home. Check out more photos below.

Rustic design touches are peppered throughout the home.

The kitchen may be small, but it’s fully functional. There may even be some New Yorkers envious of that counter space!
A nook above the bedroom features cozy carpeting and seating for Jeremy to play his guitar and relax.
The home features a charming cast-iron stove over one of the wheel wells…
… And a bright, comfy bench over the other wheel well.
