First College Football Playoff Rankings Are Out
Football | November 4, 2016
On Tuesday, November 1st, the college football playoff committee released the first playoff rankings and there is no surprise that Alabama is number one. They have shown again this year why they are the number one team and if anyone wants to win the National Championship, they will have to beat Alabama. The Clemson Tigers are the number two ranked team and coming off a big win at FSU it shows why they are ranked so high this year. Both Alabama and Clemson still have good games left this season. Both Alabama and Clemson will have to play in their respective conference championship games, as well, which won't be cake walks for either team.
As of now, it appears as though Alabama will face the Florida Gators in the SEC championship game this year, and this has been a heated rivalry for years now. Clemson will have to face the tough, two loss Virginia Tech team, which bolds a very good defense. If both teams win there conference games, we are sure they will be in the four team playoff at the end of the season, with a good shot to win the National Championship. If they both make it to the big game, it will be a great rematch of last year’s championship game.
Michigan is ranked number three in the rankings this year and has a big date coming up in a few weeks with the number six Ohio State Buckeyes. Michigan, under Coach Harbaugh, looks like a completely different program and their team this year is showing that on the field each week. Texas A&M is ranked fourth in the playoff rankings and they are the top, one loss team in the top ten. Their only loss is to the number one Alabama Crimson Tide. The last undefeated team in the top ten is Washington and this is the first time they have been ranked this high in years. However, they are not ahead of Texas A&M because the strength of their schedule has been lacking this year and they are in a weak conference out west.
If Washington can remain undefeated, it will be tough to keep them out of the four team playoff picture moving forward. There is still a lot of football to be played this season, and I am sure this time next week the top ten will be different. Alabama has a big test this Saturday, as they play a tough LSU team. Alabama still has to play their state rival, Auburn, who has looked great lately and is ranked nine in the first poll this season. There is a lot of football left and if you are a football fan, this is a great time of the year all around.
